Saturday February 6th is the official release party of a new album by Mesak for the Harmönia Records. Joined by relentless dj'ing by Claws Cousteau and Randy Barracuda, the evening is set to "hanat kaakkoon!". A free drink for a good translation of that one...

Here's how Harmönia describes the Mesakian Skwee:
"From the cold comes the new Mesak on Harmönia. The Skweee evolves. With the opener Enter the Jargon you are entering the training of Mesak’s Skweee Space Program. You’re well introduced to the vocabulary of his mission. Where Randy Barracuda got more ruff Mesak is making it more into the deep. His tracks have this soothing kinda feel to it but its funky as hell and nodding is inevitably. Omega Jam states the mission’s take-off and pushes the record into orbit. Sliding into deepspace with Silversand is miraculous. You’re becoming part of the trip. Same with Passion Of The Geist. To stay in the metaphor we meet the sirens from Venus, on the record they are called the Virgins Of Bergen (no mistake about their mission!). The push on this track is strong, putting us onto the dancefloor, against our
will!!!

Sly Filmfestival (Sotchi Montage) takes you through a messy reverb and jam kinda soundflow. And then we meet a Normal Brain and pay Tribute to it with a very stumblin’ electro-funk craze. With B. Detented we are definitely stuck into the space program. We won’t be able to leave this world, lucky us! Out end of January!"

Keramick & Lobo is a project by two long time friends and electronic music producers Jussi Mikkonen and Visa Mäkinen. The music of the duo can be described as melodic and electro-acoustic. As their sound borrows a lot from electronic music styles such as idm, downtempo, ambient and glitch, it also compiles the characteristics of acoustic music like jazz, dub, pop and even a bit of rock. Their debut-album Digital White was released in July 2007 and the follow-up album "The Braille" was released in August 2009.

On Friday January 22, mbar presents a unique one-off club concept entitled "Swing!". The night will see two friends and jazz aficionados, Valtteri Pöyhönen and Matti Nives, dig deep into their extensive jazz collections to uncover some agelessly swinging cuts expanding from the 1930's up to the 1960's (approximately). There will be a special emphasis on the less often heard sounds of the likes of Duke Ellington, Count Basie, plus other early big band innovators, alongside the best hard-grooving rare dancefloor jazz originals from the heyday of Modern Jazz thrown in for good measure.



A rare specimen behind the decks, Valtteri Pöyhönen is a composer/guitarist leading the widely acclaimed Ricky-Tick recording sextet, Dalindèo. Releasing their second LP in January, Dalindèo rank among the top draws in the contemporary jazz circuit in Finland & beyond. The other selector in question, Matti Nives, is a resident DJ at the scene leading jazz club nights Jazz Heat Bongo Beat and We Jazz, plus the current deejay in residence at mbar.
